Memory foam mattresses have gained popularity amongst the shoppers. Looking at the growing demand for these mattresses, the manufacturers vacuum pack and then ship them to the new customers. It is the only sensible method of dispatching these mattresses to the customers. But what happens is that when the customers open the box, all that they see are small, scrunched mattress pieces and get upset.
What they do not realize is that it is perfectly ok to ship the mattresses in the compact manner by sending the mattress in the tiny pieces. Once unpacked, most of these vacuum packed mattresses will revert back to their normal size after some time. Usually, the time required for the vacuum packed mattress to go back to its old size is 1 hour and in rare cases, it can be an overnight affair.
These vacuum packed mattresses have a strange smell like synthetic odor. Though not unpleasant, it can be cause irritation to some people due to the strength and duration of the smell. But this smell is normal for all the brands and styles of foam mattresses. In spite of the manufacturers’ claim that the smell lasts only for a couple of days, it has been reported that the smell lasts far longer than that.
The synthetic smells emanating from the new memory foam mattresses can irk people who are sensitive to smell or whose smelling sensation is quite strong. If you are troubled by the smell of the vacuum packed mattress, you can leave it unassembled for some days to provide air to the foam pieces. If you assemble it and cover it with sheets, the smell will linger on for a long time.
But if you are in a hurry to use your new memory foam mattress immediately, you can add a couple of sheets till the odor disappears. You might have to keep on the sheets for many weeks till the scent disappears.
